Mig alley free pc download

MiG Alley works on more levels than the average flight sim. Sure, you get the normal 'jump in a plane and go shoot at things' mode, but you also get a pretty neat campaign manager. And you get to plan your missions properly as well, if that sort of thing lights your candle.

You're offered a selection of US aircraft, and one of two variants of the Soviet MiG 15, plus a variety of missions. It all works surprisingly well: think of your favourite strategy game, then add the ability to actually fly the missions you've set up. You kill the targets you've specified - or not, of course, but we'll come to that in a minute. The mission planner is easily the most comprehensive since Falcon 4. And it looks bloody marvellous. The ground still looks a little like someone's taken a photo, put some contours on it and then stuck 3D objects on top presumably because that's how it's been done , but the whole look and feel is so immersive that such a small flaw pales into insignificance.

Pilots in the Korean War found themselves regularly flying jet aircraft for the first time in combat and yet this was one of the final conflicts to rely on air-to-air dogfighting, rather than smart, radar-guided missiles.

MiG Alley reflects this reliance on dogfighting. It takes guts, determination and a sense of self-control to find and shoot down the enemy, without increasing the percentage of aircraft lost to friendly fire. While aircraft are central to attacks and defense in modern warfare, the Korean conflict, taking place just five years after the end of Second World War, was still primarily a ground offensive. As a pilot you were expected to play a support role, to remove possible ground threats and restrict enemy troop advancements to nighttime activity.

The cockpits also deserve special mention. They're fully 3D and clickable, and quite a sight to behold. The missions themselves are a total blast to play. Never in my time as a sim pilot have I seen the level of detail and immersion that has gone into these missions.

The game models full Forward Air Controllers guys who fly around marking targets for you , as well as full ground targets and lots of air targets too. This is one sim that, throughout a mission, has a LOT going on at any given time, and this doesn't slow the frame rate down one bit. Even with dozens the game can support many, many planes in the air at one time , the game was smooth and fluid.

There's so much radio chatter at one time that one feels they're really in the middle of a great conflict. Rowan really outdid themselves this time. The game also includes multiplayer options, although over my paltry modem connection, there was a lot of lag. This is more the fault of my connection than the game, but one hopes that the internet play could be more streamlined. It's easy to get into, however, and full campaigns may be flown cooperatively, which is a real boon to multiplayer gaming.
