And when I do get it - How do I make skype recognize the virtualcam? The whole problem started by me having all the drivers installed, and no amount of restarting or applying the other classic tricks in the book, that I know of, did the remotest difference.
The Steam client is the one who does the downloading not FaceRig. Please open the Steam client, right click on Facerig and do a "verify integrity of the local application cache" action in the Steam client. Then the virtual webcam driver will be there :. The is no need to uninstall FaceRig entirely and re-download FaceRig entirely. Just tell steam to compare and download the missing files. I've installed, reinstalled, verified files, and still can't get virtual webcam to work.
It should have significantly better compatibility than the old virtual webcam. It works with Skype Metro, and a plethora of less known chat apps and browsers for instace using Chrome for Chatroulette or Omegle is no longer a requirement. Be warned: this is an actual virtual device driver, not a DirectShow filter.
